holy heck...
hehe, sorry, i just wrote the first thing that came to mind.. anywho, its been a few days since i've visited my blog and the blogging world in general. it's been a blessing not to have so much free time anymore. so for all of you who are wondering i'll tell you how my new position as CSR at Future Shop is coming along, read on...
well first of all, i have currently finished 4 full shifts and have 1 more tomorrow then 2 days off. the beginning was fairly overwhelming as i'm sure most of you have experienced when starting something new. but i am adjusting well to my new surroundings, and the other employees have been very encouraging throughout the process. i'm pretty fluent in my dealings at the register and don't have to page for help quite as often anymore (despite my wars with the debit machine). i'm also not quite as scared to answer the phone anymore, which is good, because it rings pretty much constantly. i can still hear it. but all in all i am enjoying my time there more and more. when there is no one to 'ring through' i grab some flyers and welcome the 'guests' to our store or answer the phone if there is no one else available. the other csr's are friendly folk who like to chat and have fun. i look forward to no longer being the 'new girl', perhaps a name tag would help... some more helpful information i learned today was that i am only making $7.50/hr. my employee discount (cost+10%) doesn't come into effect until AFTER my 3 month probation. sorry to disappoint so many of you, nov 23 is still a long way away. but just in time for christmas. that's about all i have to say. if you ever wanna drop by the store feel free!!
p.s- bvo, i'll be down on tuesday, 9pm at the latest (i may or may not be working tuesday i asked for a morning shift tho if she did want to schedule me in there). i got wednesday off forsure. cya soon!
p.p.s- oh i almost forgot! this is also day 8! w00t!!

congratulations!!
i have just returned from my dear friends Andreah (Rekman) and Carl VanRooyens wedding in Woodstock. it was a lovely outdoor celebration. couldn't have asked for better weather and the gardens were beautifully arrayed with color. Ron Hosmar preached a typical 'Ron sermon', while pastor Dave officiated the service. the festivities continued including an exciting hayride between the ceremony and reception. as in most dutch weddings, the relatives had a little too much free reign during the reception and things got a little lengthy. thankfully the wine kept flowing, from which i am still feeling the effects as i try to type this post coherently. after the dinner we headed up to the top floor of the barn for a good ol' fasion hoe-down!! after a few more beers i was ready to hit the dance floor which mostly resulted in a lot of confusion for both me and my partner. but a good time was had by all. it was a great time of reuniting with old and current friends and a lot of reminiscing....
Congratulations Andrea and Carl, God's blessings to you both!!!
you can view albums created by nicole vdv:
album1 - prep, rehersal, goodtimes.
album2 - more prep, ceremony, reception.
p.s- currently on day 4 SMOKE FREE! (its really gone a lot easier than i thought)

announcing future shop's newest associate...
....................................... SHANNA M. VANOOSTEN...........................................
today, being the day that we've all been anxiously anticipating (slight exaggeration), was a success! after showing up at Future Shop 15 minutes early for my interview, like the professional that i am, i ended up wandering the aisles aimlessly for another 45 minutes. finally, i was able to decipher my name being said through the stores intercom system (proved very challenging with the surrounding noise) and made my way to the CSR desk. My interviewer was a very friendly lady, Maria, who asked some very pertinent questions. it was very relaxed, and we had a nice chat. i think i won her over with my opinion that 'borrowing' store merchandise is a bad idea. yeah, these people are hard to please. after about 20 minutes of being in the hot seat, she brought my answers she had jotted down to another manager to see if he'd like to give me a second interview. upon her return she informed me that the other manager did NOT want to see me, where i naturally felt hurt. fortunately the pain was soon alleviated when Maria said she would like to hire me if i was interested in the 'non-commission' position. so despite my wise eldest brother's predictions, the hiring process took place in half an hour (excluding the week wait for the interview), NOT 3 weeks. I start at 8am monday. i have no idea what my starting wage is or if i qualify for benefits after my 3 months probation period. those small details i'm sure will become clear next week. for now i am sooo happy to be EMPLOYED. wow, its been way too long. goodbye - boredom - staying up till 4am and sleeping till noon - soaps and home decorating channels... helooooo paychecks! life is good. i bought a new skirt today after my interview to congratulate myself. it's very cute!!
p.s - i haven't had a cigarette in 2 days. GO ME!

abe lincoln wannabe...
after taking the "what famous leader are you?" personality test it was decided that my characteristics are most similar to those of Abraham Lincoln. from the vague description given it seems fairly accurate. here's hoping i don't have the same fate...
what famous leader are you?

Fishy Business
this afternoon bvd and i headed over to Super Pet to check out their selection of fish. i have a 2G tank i got for my birthday, but i haven't had a fish in it since Twitch died in June (due to the state of Hamiltons city water). after several minutes of browsing i chose a cute little Fan-tail Goldfish (the same i had before) and for $4 i added another member to the household, Avery. i have high hopes that this one will last longer than 4 months. welcome to the family little buddy!
special characteristic: poops a lot
here's the little dude. well, very similar anyways.

on the prowl
so i've been 'off work' for 5 weeks give or take. at first it was kinda nice. after an exciting trip out west i moved back to my hometown, sarnia. i've spent a lot of time sleeping, smoking, watching t.v till 4am, and recently taken on a more productive task of renovating my room-to-be in the basement. now all these things are good and healthy in small doses but i believe i've about reached the extent of uselessness. if you've ever been in this position you'll know how frustrating it is to have you life stuck in a slow, downward route to poverty. all your future plans and dreams are put on hold indeffinitely. but, through every trial there is always hope. and after filling out a completely absurd online application form for future shop yesterday, i got a call for an interview. hurrah! this interview isn't scheduled to take place until 08/20 but it's a step and i'm excited about the prospect of discounts. let's hope i am employed soon.
